Mitri Raheb

The Rev. Mitri Raheb has been the pastor of the Evangelical Christmas Lutheran Church since 1988 in Bethlehem, Palestine, where he was born and raised. He is the president of the Diyar Consortium, a group of cultural, health, and educational centers he founded between 1995-2010.

Raheb is the author of the award-winning I Am a Palestinian Christian, Bethlehem Beseiged, as editor of The Invention of History: A Century of Interplay Between Theology and Politics in Palestine and The Biblical Text in the Context of Occupation.  He received his doctorate in theology at Phipps University in Marburg, Germany. Raheb is also the recipient of numerous awards including, for "interfaith work toward peacemaking in Israel and Palestine," the “International Mohammad Nafi Tschelebi Peace Award” of the Central Islam Archive in Germany in 2006; in the following year, the German Peace Award of Aachen; and the 2011 Deutscher Medienpreis, the prestigious international award for efforts towards peace and humanitarianism. He lives in Bethlehem with his wife and two daughters.
