John Philip Newell

Scholar, poet, and teacher, John Philip Newell is a Companion Theologian for the American Spirituality Centre of Casa del Sol in New Mexico. Newell has won acclaim in the British Isles and North America for his works on Celtic spirituality, including his best known titles Celtic Benediction, Sounds of the Eternal, Listening to the Heartbeat of God, and Christ of the Celts and his two latest, Praying with the Earth and A New Harmony.

He is a former Warden of Iona Abbey in the Western Isles of Scotland. A Church of Scotland minister, Newell has a passion for peace and justice and a blending of the great spiritual traditions. He has been a leading advocate for the renewal of creation spirituality for contemporary Christians. Canadian by birth, he lives with his family in Edinburgh, where he earned his doctorate in Celtic Christianity.  Salva Terra, a non-profit organization, was created as a reflection of the commitment of him and his wife, Ali, to the reconciliation of all peoples, faiths, and the earth.
